Synopsis:

This story follows Emmy who lives on a farm with her dad and is about to turn 18. But when she does everything changes. Here dreams about the oak tree get more vivid and the town may not have her best interests at heart due to a deal with what they made many years ago!

My Thoughts:

OMG this comic has the most stunning and amazing artwork ever! The watercolour artwork gives it that mysterious and sinister tone but also I feel you can convey more emotion with it. The full page artwork of landscapes were just out of this world I would love to have these on my wall. The ghosts were such fresh take on how they looked and very eye catching plus a bit freaky and scary. The Abandoned were so creepy with the Minotaur look and not really how I imagined them to be which was great. The skinned boy wow. He even creeped me out and just gave off this immense presence in the drawing.

The narration throughout gave the comic a eery feeling plus gave just the right amount of information to keep you interested. The father and daughter dialogue was so sweet but yet sinister at the same time which showed the dynamic of their relationship. I loved that within the dialogue they incorporated colloquialisms of the time and place which brought it to life more. The dialogue of the Skinned Boy was so creepily represented and added more to his character. The dialogue between Emmy and Mr Sorrell was so weird and cringe worthy I was just thinking how weird is this gonna go.

Emmy what a strong and powerful character I absolutely love her. I am so invested in her story and where she is developing. Pa at points I just got so angry at his character. But by the end of the comic he grew on me and I am starting to enjoy his character. Bernice what a great sort of sidekick to Emmy such an intriguing and loveable character. I so enjoyed reading her. Skinned Boy so creepy (how many times can say that word in this review) but I really loved his character and wanted to know more about his background and his connection to Emmy. Riah I would like to see more of his character he was interesting especially his relationship with Pa.

This was perfectly fast paced plot that I could not stop reading. Every part from beginning to end was thrill ride of a mystery trying to figure out were everyone fits in the story. The ending just left me with so many questions I’m so annoyed I don’t have the second volume in my hands!

I loved every minute of this comic it is the perfect horror comic thanks so much to Hope Nicholson for the recommendation you were right. This is for all horror and witch fans plus anyone who likes the creepy vibe of Halloween the film. I loved the extra interviews and chapters in the back they were so intriguing. I can’t wait to read the next volume.

5 stars
